Welcome to the West Michigan Coyotes. We are a Junior MTB racing team of student-athletes Grades K-12 from across West Michigan. In 2017 we started with 17 riders. These days, we have over 140 registered riders! The growth has been staggering and exciting.
Our riders hail from school districts across West Michigan from Allendale to Zeeland, Grand Rapids to Grand Haven, and nearly everywhere in between. Some team members come from as far away as South Bend or Sturgis, Traverse City or Three Rivers, and we think that’s pretty cool too!
We abide by three principles:
- Mountain biking is a great sport for everyone. Starting while you’re young sets you up for a lifetime of fun in the woods.
- Racing is fun, and racing together is even more fun. Our team, while competitive and excited to win state championships (2019, 20, 21, 22 & 24!), really revolves around having a good time on your bike.
- Sportsmanship is contagious.
Our 100% volunteer coaching staff (at all levels) are certified in CPR, First Aid, and MiSCA MTB Coaching. We also all undergo a criminal background check and follow MiSCA’s coaching guidance to ensure your kids enjoy MTB safely.
What’s New:
THIS. IS. ICEMAN.
There’s something about Iceman Cometh MTB race that just hits different. Something about waking up in the dark, loading bikes and watching your breath fog in the headlights as you drive toward Kalkaska. All year long, Iceman lives in our heads. It’s the story we tell after every training ride, the one goal sitting out there on the calendar like a challenge you can’t shake. Then November hits and it’s not just a date anymore. It’s a calling. Because Iceman isn’t just another race. It’s the race. The biggest one day mountain bike race in the country happens right here in…

COYOTES STATE CHAMPS! HIGH SCHOOL COMPOSITE WINNERS, BAAAABBBYYY! Read that again. STATE. CHAMPIONS. Say it like the one and only sports announcer legend Dick Vitale…hands waving, voice cracking, coffee replaced by Red Bull: “It’s AWESOME, BAAAABBBYYY!” The Coyotes rolled into the 2025 MiSCA State Championship like a sugar fueled fever dream and rolled out on top of the state. Months of grit, snacks and questionable life choices all came together under a Sunday morning fog thick enough to make your Garmin lose GPS. You couldn’t see more than two bike lengths ahead (we are totally exaggerating here), but that didn’t…
