Race Recap – Big M “State Championships” – A Family Affair

Hughes and Hughes

We still think of MiSCA as our state championship series, so don’t worry racers nothing has suddenly changed. However, adults like to race too, and in the era of COVID-19 we are immensely thankful that Fun Promotions decided to host a CPS State Championship race to replace the MMBA Championship Point Series that normally runs all summer.

In a typical race recap, even in the off-season, we only write about the kids who make up our youth mountain bike team. Today though, I’m going to give a shout out (at the end of the article) to the coaches and parents that raced today. Mountain biking can be a family affair, and this weekend was a great example of parents and kids both racing at the same time. Our youngest racer this weekend was Will Hughes, who races Upper Elementary at MiSCA. He did a solo 8-mile lap into the deep wilderness of the Manistee National Forest in the 14-under beginners class yesterday. At the same time, parents and coaches raced in classes from Elite to Beginner. What a day!
