Maybury Race Recap

This weekend at Maybury State Park, the Coyotes took on a time trial format that had some racers pumped and others counting down to snack time. The course? Old-school MTB magic…roots, drops, and more twists than your favorite TV show finale. I personally loved it, but let’s be real, I wasn’t the one racing!

We tied for the Elementary race, but don’t worry—we’re still holding onto that overall series lead. And over in Middle School, we’re keeping the top spot on lockdown with 1st place still in our grasp. Yip, yip, Coyotes!

Meanwhile, up at the Marji Gesick, Coach Ryan, Ocean, Owen, and his dad Todd were taking on some serious endurance insanity. Ocean casually snagged 3rd overall female in the mini-Marji because she’s just that cool, while Owen cruised to a solid 9th place. What a weekend for Coyote domination across the board!

Ocean and Coach Ryan

Back at Maybury, LJ had what can only be described as a chain-destruction masterpiece, turning his derailleur into some avant-garde sculpture. And then there’s Drake, who apparently wanted Ray’s bike to float through the course with 60+ psi in his tires. They weren’t just racing, they were prepping for takeoff!

LJ’s Derailleur Masterpiece (his mom should frame this!)

Alright let’s talk about Bridger, not only did he obliterate his best finish ever (yeah, even better than last week!), but he also earned himself the now-legendary lucky sleeve. Sorry, Mom, but that sleeve is officially banned from all forms of laundry until Iceman—or, let’s be honest, maybe forever. It’s now a sacred piece of Coyote history, complete with funk powers! At this point, we’re pretty sure it has its own aura.

And just when you thought it couldn’t get better, there’s a pre-race masterpiece photo of Ray feeding Bridger grapes on Saturday, like he’s fueling up for the Tour de France. Forget carb-loading—apparently, grape-feeding is the real secret to speed. Next up: pre-race chocolate fondue anyone?

Does this even need a caption? LOL

And speaking of legends, our littlest ripper, Alexander, has officially graduated to two wheels! That’s right, no more balance bike. He’s officially a mini Coyote on the move!

Now for the results, and trust me, they’re as awesome as that grape-feeding photo:

Varsity Male was a huge highlight this weekend! Drake Marine took on the tough Maybury course with full throttle, flying into 6th place like he had a personal jetpack strapped to his bike. He handled the twists, roots, and drops like a pro, leaving dust in his wake. Not far behind, Ray Muehlenz rolled in at 15th, showing that no matter how gnarly the course, he can tackle anything Maybury throws at him. Whether it’s navigating sketchy bridges or powering through the relentless turns, Ray showed true Coyote grit from start to finish. These two had the varsity race locked down with speed and style!

In Junior Varsity 11th-12th grade Male Gavin Peters was basically a human stopwatch, securing 6th place with lap times so precise they were just 0.003 seconds apart! That’s the kind of consistency that makes us wonder if he’s secretly part robot. Meanwhile, Bridger Hoogeveen fueled by the power of his unwashed lucky sleeve and a royal grape-feeding ceremony, smashed his best finish ever taking 7th place! The combo of grapes and sleeve magic clearly worked wonders

In Junior Varsity 9th-10th grade Male Easton Roberts rolled into 5th place, thanks to a last-minute bar-end plug hand-off from Coach Tobi—who, let’s be real, never claimed to be a sprinter! Tobi ran back to base camp like a hero in a hurry to “borrow” Coach Jeff’s bar plug, avoiding a penalty and saving the day. It was a race-day rescue straight out of an action movie, and Easton didn’t waste a second, tearing through the course like the drama never happened. Meanwhile, Camden DeJong rocked his way into 9th, proving that old-school trails are still where the real fun’s at. And Henry Wert? He crossed the line in 35th with a huge smile.

On the JV Female side Sadie James kept her unstoppable streak alive, powering her way to a strong 3rd place finish. As usual, she was out there crushing it like it’s just another day at school. At this point, the podium might as well come with her name on it!

The Advanced MS Boys were absolutely unstoppable! Tristan Hubbard charged his way to 3rd, while Will Hughes threw down to grab 6th—despite having some pre-race doubts (turns out, leaving it all on the course works wonders). And Cruz Woodbury powered through, finishing strong in 12th, proving once again that the Coyotes mean business on the trails!

The Advanced MS Girls were total podium royalty! Reese Drajka snagged the crown with a 1st place finish, while Sammy Weaver claimed 2nd, cementing a Coyote takeover at the top. Laila Hubbard cruised into 6th, and Kaitlyn Tungl wrapped things up in style with an 8th place finish. The Coyotes didn’t just race—they owned that podium!

In the Novice 10th-12th grade Male race Kaden Spitters grabbed 2nd, while Hudson Roberts rolled in at 9th, and Sam Bazuin finished 12th.

Novice 8th grade Male had Tyler Veley taking 8th, and in the Novice 7th grade Male race, Sawyer Willink grabbed 2nd, Jakob Boer 3rd, and Calvin Host 5th. The Coyotes practically owned the podium!

In Novice 6th grade Male Max Clemo finished 4th, Liam Cox grabbed 9th, Ryland Modzeleski 12th, Gunnar Larson 15th, Finn O’Byrne 21st, and Spencer Bundy took 32nd.

For the Novice 6th-8th grade Female group, Harper Roberts finished 4th and Ellie Pankey raced to 15th!

In the Advanced Elementary Male category James Broughton took 2nd, with Easton Johnson following in 4th. Hadley Ruch grabbed 3rd for Advanced Elementary Female and Lola Clemo rolled into 4th.

In Elementary 5th grade Female Alida Ward took 10th. Ryder Pankey grabbed 2nd for 4th grade boys, and Fiona O’Byrne finished 12th for the 4th grade girls.

In 2nd-3rd grade boys Sawyer Weaver finished 6th, and for the 2nd-3rd grade girls, Gracelyn Host took 4th, Aspen Trierweiler grabbed 6th, Lucy Clemo finished 14th, and Rainey Broughton crossed in 21st.

And in PreK-1st grade Titus Broughton took 2nd, with Wyatt Johnson finishing 6th!

From chain catastrophes to grape-fueled victories, the Coyotes brought the fun, the grit, and plenty of laughs!
