Race Day Update!

Coyotes, here is what you need to know to be ready for race day.

Your race day will have 8 phases:

  1. Find your child’s start time on the official start list from MiSCA, or on the filtered Coyotes-only version.
  2. Check-in at our West Michigan Coyotes team-tent when you arrive at Addison Oaks County Park.  Coaches at the tent will have your number plate for you. Affix this to your child’s bike. The Coyotes-only start list indicates the coach who will be at the tent when your child arrives.
  3. Warm-up! Because the race is a scheduled-start time trial, your child will probably be warming up alone.  Coaches will discuss this with you at the team tent.
  4. Report to staging. FIRE UP! The start list shows you what time to report to staging (it should be 10 minutes before your start time).  A mask is required in the staging area but should be removed before your racer starts.  Stow this in a jersey pocket (instead of handing it off to a spectator/parent).
  5. Parents:  PLEASE do not gather in the start/finish area.  Our racing permits are issued by very concerned landowners who worry about the COVID regulations coming from Lansing.  Our ability to continue racing is contingent upon their comfort with our actions. This is how we keep racing.
  6. Riders: RACE!  Fast is fun!  Don’t sweat the COVID stuff while you’re racing.  Just get out there and RIP!
  7. Each racer can snag a “grab-n-go” snack bag and a post-race drink from our tent.  These pre-packaged snacks and drinks are for racers only and limited to one per racer, please.  MANY thanks for putting these together, Sheri Boon!
  8. Please return your number plate to the coaches before you depart.  We will bring them all to each race so they’re not lost.
  9. Head home, check results online later (we will email them in a newsletter as well).

Please see the MiSCA Race Plan for other regulations for race-day.

Questions people have asked:

  • Q: Can we spectate?
A: Please do not spectate in the start/finish area. After your rider starts, we recommend walking into the woods and spectating from there. Please observe social distancing guidelines.

  • Q: Will there be food this year?
A: There will be grab-n-go snack bags (for your riders only).  Because we are not having a team potluck, please plan to exit the park for food.

  • Q: Do I have to wear a mask?
A: From MiSCA’s race plan: Masks are required when you are in the start/finish/registration area and when you cannot be 6′ away from others.

  • Q: I don’t have a jersey, can I borrow one?
A: We’re not loaning jerseys.  COVID, cleaning, etc. makes that tough. BUT if your family has outgrown your Coyotes gear, please bring it to the race and maybe you can pay it forward to a younger rider.   We also have extras for sale (see below).

Race #1 was a great success because we all did our part to make the park operators comfortable with our COVID response.  Please continue to help show that we can race safely!  Thank you for your patience with MiSCA race staff and volunteers, all of whom are working incredibly hard to put on a race series for our kids.  Our coaches will do their best to ensure an exciting and fun day at the course. Your kids have done all the work necessary to have a great experience on Sunday and we’re excited to get out there and see how they do!

We will see you Sunday near Lake Orion at Addison Oaks!
LET’S RIDE!
